Swedish-based Indie Folk Duo. Debut EP “Pockets Full of Sand” was recorded in Nashville with Shani Gandhi (Sarah Jarosz etc.) behind the recording console. A full length album named Cold War is being recorded this fall, closer to their Nordic roots both in sound and location.
Orquesta Tangarte is an Argentinean-Swedish tango orchestra, founded in 1999 in Malmö, Sweden, by the bandoneonist Juanjo Passo with the purpose of performing and spreading tango music from its birthplace, Rio de la Plata.
The orchestra’s music is the tango from Rio de la Plata, a repertoire with a great variety from the 1940’s and -50’s up to this date. Well-known composers like D’Arienzo, Di Sarli, Troilo, Gobbi, Pugliese and Piazzolla, to mention a few, are part of this repertoire.
Floating Sofa Quartet is a modern Nordic folk music ensemble consisting of four young musicians from Denmark, Sweden and Finland. With a unique combination of acoustic instruments the quartet performs handmade music with a scent of dewy pine trees, salty sea breezes and freshly brewed coffee.
Multiple award-winning Senegalese/Swedish duo Sousou & Maher Cissoko are crossing borders in their music just like in their life together. Constantly on the move with musical and human meetings as their principal driving force. Maher was born to play kora and Sousou is one of very few female kora players in the world.
Lamine Cissokho is a kora player born in Senegal. He is a descendant of well-know mandingo musicians, whose traditions date back to the14th century. Lamine belongs to the elite among kora players. His music is a unique crossover between mandinka traditions, jazz, worldmusic and virtuosic improvisations.
Lelo Nika, double winner of the title “Accordion World Champion”, comes from the village of Nikolinci, eighty kilometres north of Belgrade. In 1970, the one year old Lelo moved with his parents to Denmark and settled in Helsingør. Today, Lelo lives in Malmö, in the south of Sweden.
Trio Wolski's music is a mixture of traditional Nordic folk melodies and own compositions. Sophisticated arrangements are varied with free improvisations and with their special instrumentation, they create a sound that constantly shifts in dynamics and intensities.
The group has its base in folk music, but that has not prevented them from breaking the tradition and giving concerts outside the traditional folk & world music scene.
Anna Fält performs Scandinavian and Fenno-Ugric tradition as well as own material: ancient spells and incantation texts, herding calls, lullabies, yoik, stories from the forests and the Nordic landscapes.
The feedback most often heard from Anna Fälts audience is “I’ve never heard anything like this before”. And that is true: it’s very rare to hear one human voice, just singing. But it is more than “just singing”: folk singing traditions offer so many ways to use this versatile instrument that no other instruments are needed!
